I am supremely intelligent

from a letter sent by British Mensa, September 1993
Dear Mr Nunneley

we at Mensa are pleased to tell you that your practice I.Q test has been marked and your I.Q is higher than 99% of the population. Your I.Q on our scale appears to be 138 [maximum 140].

I had a cartilage operation and was convalescing at home at the time, unable to move very far. As a result of an advertising campaign in The Times I had sent for a self-administered test from Mensa. I was 48 and it was the first time anyone had told me how intelligent I was.
